This project was The Mill Seoul CG team’s first R&D endeavor, where each artist was able to focus on their strengths and take charge of specific parts of the process, working together as a cohesive team. As the Creative Lead, I was involved from the concept and layout stages, allowing me to shape the overall vision of the project.
I came up with the concept of using the time-freeze technique to showcase the details of the shot, with the camera zooming in and panning over the scene, before culminating in a final wide shot that reveals the moment of impact.
In addition, I worked on asset design and texturing, which allowed me to dive deep into my passion for sci-fi spaceship design. Using free spaceship models as a base, I kitbashed various assets and managed the materials and textures efficiently through Substance Painter, adding details with decals to enhance the realism of the spacecraft.
I also contributed to the overall atmosphere by creating background matte paintings in Photoshop, designing a variety of galaxies to set the mood. These layers were then brought into Maya as textures for projection, and in compositing, I ensured the time-freeze effect had the necessary depth and impact.
